Vet Tales is the story of veterinarian, Dr. Liza Schneider, from her humble beginnings in Africa to the building of an award-winning and unique veterinary practice in New Zealand.

For as long as she can remember Liza has always wanted to work with animals. Growing up in South Africa, with the majestic, sweeping landscapes and abundant with a rich diversity of wildlife, Liza’s childhood was full of incredible animal encounters.

She relished learning about animals and their natural environment and was fortunate to have her father, an active conservationist, facilitate intimate and inspiring interactions with wildlife from a young age… getting up close with a wild African elephant and being able to count its eyelashes, assisting in the rehabilitation of orphaned lion cubs, cheetahs, wild dogs, baby hippopotamuses and rhinoceros and many more extraordinary experiences.

While many children would have been lucky to grow up with a cat or dog as a pet, Liza also added a monkey, chameleons, a tortoise, goose, birds, gerbils, hamsters and mice to her collection of much-loved pets.

From a very young age, Liza knew she would be a vet when she grew up. Following her childhood dream, she qualified as a vet and moved to New Zealand. When she started practicing she couldn’t believe that she was getting paid to do what she loved and to interact with so many fabulous animals and their often amazing owners.

Liza shares delightful, heart-warming, inspiring and occasionally agonising moments which have touched her deeply and will provide animal lovers with a unique insight into the life of a vet.
