THE BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT COURSE

"You get a dog because you want a best friend, you call a dog trainer because you don’t want your best friend to be a jerk!” Although the quote is very funny, it is also very true. People hire dog trainers for all sorts of reasons… Simple Basic Obedience or to assist with inappropriate behaviours such as chewing, digging, reactive behaviour, barking, jumping, just to name a few. The right kind of training can fix a lot of problems, but more importantly, it can build a better relationship between you and your dog. Training is a way for you to communicate with your dog. You speak English, he speaks dog! Training is your translator. It helps the two of you understand how to live together in balance and harmony.

COURSE  FEATURES

Reactive dogs are triggered by stimuli in the indoor and outdoor environment (it could be noise, other dogs, people, fast moving objects, etc.) and have an emotional response to it. The response can be driven by many factors, but the most common are fear or frustration. Since these dogs are usually leashed and don’t have the option of retreating, they tend to explode in self-defence. Others are just over-excited and frustrated because they really want to go and say "hi" to the dog or person passing by, but can't because they are restrained. Those emotional explosions present itself in the form of whining, barking, growling or lunging and this may come across as aggression to others. These dogs are not mean, they are usually petrified or over-aroused. They still deserve to be exercised and explore the outside world in a controlled manner, and in many cases, this is a major part of their rehabilitation!

This 6-week practical, results-driven course contains proven step-by-step recipes that will give you the tools to effectively manage your dog's behaviour and environment in order to prevent these outbursts from occurring regularly, and to systematically desensitise your dog to his triggers, so he can make better choices when exposed to it.

What are you waiting for? Get off the couch and...

Over many years, we've helped thousands of clients train their dogs... Here's what a handful of them have to say:

Kathy: “This course has been incredibly helpful, easy to follow and worth every cent! I am able to share what I’ve learnt with my family members to ensure my dog’s training remains consistent, so we end up with a happy, well-behaved dog. I'm so glad I discovered this course and would recommend it to any dog owner.”

Tim: “I’ve had dogs all my life, but by completing this course, I’ve come to the realisation that I had a lot of misconceptions about dog behaviour and how dogs learn. Some of the old school techniques I have used in the past were not very kind and by switching to a more positive approach, I have been able to achieve so much more with my dogs and our relationship is a hundred times better because of it. I am extremely appreciative of Friends Of The Dog.”

Stacy: “I was looking for affordable trainers when I stumbled across this online course. I thought I’d give it a go and learn some training techniques on my own. I liked the idea of attending in-person classes, however, I wanted my dog’s training to start immediately, rather than having to wait for physical classes to become available. I am pleasantly surprised at how quickly my dog has picked up on the new skills, and just how easy it has been for me to implement them into our daily routine. Within a short time, we have built the foundation for a strong bond and clear communication. By working on it a little every day, I don't feel uncertain about how to deal with normal puppy behaviours.”

Lauren: “The Friends Of The Dog courses are all very comprehensive and excellent value for money. They’re always packed with heaps of interesting and useful information and tips. I needed some training help with my adopted dog and he is much more manageable now. He has calmed down tremendously and our relationship has grown so much by training and learning together. I am so thankful that I found Friends Of The Dog!”

Paul: “These online courses are so convenient. I don’t need to drive anywhere, I can look at the course content whenever I want and follow it at my own pace, as well as my dog’s pace, and if I get distracted, I can rewind the video or read over the content again to get me back on track. My dog has come a long way since I started training with her and she looks forward to our daily training sessions together. One thing I’ve learnt from this course is that dog training is a lifelong process, dogs learn all the time and from all our everyday interactions with them. So, old dogs CAN learn new tricks too! Consistency, repetition, patience and positive reinforcement is key.”

Amy: "I was really struggling with my dog's reactive behaviour around other dogs until I completed Michelle's Behaviour Management Course. It was a long road to recovery for my boy after a traumatic incident with another unfriendly dog left him with zero confidence. I learnt so much and I'm very grateful to report that he is much calmer and happier in the company of other dogs. To be honest, he'll often just ignore them, and is selective of who he plays with, but he has made a few new friends and it is much easier to walk him now."
